The El Paso Chihuahuas brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the ninth inning but lost to the Las Vegas Aviators 9-7 Wednesday night at Las Vegas Ballpark. The Aviators have won the first two games of the series.

El Paso designated hitter Matthew Batten went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a walk and two RBIs. Batten’s three hits extended his hitting streak to eight games. Right fielder Cal Mitchell went 1-for-4 with a three-run double that tied the score in the fifth inning. Tirso Ornelas went 2-for-4 with a double and a home run for El Paso.

Chihuahuas relievers Alek Jacob and Nick Hernandez combined to pitch four shutout innings. Michel Otanez struck out six Chihuahuas in his 2.2 inning save for Las Vegas. El Paso has dropped three consecutive games.
