The Jupiter Hammerheads (19-11) fail to score the placed runner in the 10th inning as they fall to the Palm Beach Cardinals (17-13) by a final score of 4-3 in 10 innings on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. Through the first six regular season games of the "Dual of the Dean," every game has been decided by one run with Palm Beach taking a 4-2 lead in the series in 2024.

It was a scoreless ballgame through the first two and a half innings. Jupiter would score first for the first time in the series in the bottom of the third inning. With one out, Carmine Lane and Angelo DiSpigna drew back-to-back walks. Later with two outs, JT Mabry hit an RBI single to make it a 1-0 Jupiter lead. DiSpigna followed that by scoring on a wild pitch which made it 2-0 Jupiter after the third inning.

Palm Beach got on the scoreboard for the first time in the top of the fifth inning when Tre Richardson hit a sacrifice fly to center field to drive in Brayden Jobert to cut the lead to 2-1.

However, the Hammerheads responded right away in the bottom of the frame. After Lane led off with a single, DiSpigna launched a ground-rule RBI double to right-center field to get the run back for Jupiter to increase the lead to 3-1.

Things would take a turn for the worse for Jupiter in the top of the sixth inning. The Cardinals loaded the bases thanks to a single and two walks with one out. Then, with Chase Davis at the plate and one out, Davis hit a ground ball to Brock Vradenburg who threw the ball home and it got away causing two runs to score and the game to be tied at 3-3.

Nine innings would not be enough to settle tonight's ballgame as the score remained tied at 3-3 in the tenth inning. With Jack Sellinger (L, 0-1) on the mound for Jupiter, Palm Beach would score the placed runner on a sacrifice fly from Kade Kretzschmar to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead. Jupiter failed to score the placed runner in the bottom of the tenth as Ixan Henderson finished the final five innings on the mound for Palm Beach as Jupiter fell 4-3 in 10 innings on Thursday night.

Jupiter starting pitcher Brandon White finished his outing with a no-decision on six innings pitched with three runs and only one was earned. Riskiel Tineo and Justin Storm combined for three scoreless innings in relief and four strikeouts. Mabry finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lane scored a game-high two runs. Hammerheads baserunners were caught stealing three times and also picked off once.

The second half of the series begins on Friday, May 10th at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thomas White (0-1, 4.58 ERA, No. 2 MIA Prospect on MLB Pipeline) will make the start for the Hammerheads against Quinn Mathews for the Cardinals.
