Scott Kingery Goes Deep Twice as ‘Pigs Dropped by Mets

Allentown, Pennsylvania (May 9, 2024) – Scott Kingery blasted two homers for the second time this season but it was the only offense the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (12-21) could muster in a 9-2 loss to the Syracuse Mets (20-14) on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Park.

Syracuse was off and running early as Ben Gamel doubled to start the game and Rylan Bannon then walked. Mark Vientos singled home Gamel with Bannon moving to third and then scoring on a Carlos Cortes RBI groundout.

Kingery belted his first of two solo homers leading off the second, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Syracuse extended their lead in the fourth. Jose Iglesias hit a solo homer, his sixth of the year, Yolmer Sanchez drove home a run with a double, and Hayden Senger drove in another with a sacrifice fly.

The Mets blew the game open with a four-run sixth. Senger drove in two more with a two-run base hit and Vientos also drove in two more with a double to make it 9-1.

Kingery hit his seventh homer of the year, another solo shot, kicking off the eighth to make it a 9-2 game.

Danny Young (1-0) faced just two hitters but got the win for the Mets. He pitched one-third of an inning without allowing a run, walking one.

Tyler Phillips (3-2) suffered the loss for the IronPigs, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and three walks, striking out three over six innings.

The ‘Pigs and Mets square off again on Friday, May 10 with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. Mick Abel (1-2, 6.23) toes the rubber for the ‘Pigs while the Mets counter with Justin Jarvis (0-0, 0.00).
