The Salt Lake Bees wrapped up their six-game series against the Sacramento River Cats on Sunday afternoon, as Elliot Soto’s electrifying go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning secured the Mother’s Day victory by a final score of 6-3.

Both starting pitchers put together strong outings, as Salt Lake’s Kenny Rosenberg fired 6.2 innings while punching out five Sacramento hitters and allowing just three runs on seven hits. The River Cats were able to plate a run in the fourth inning before chasing Rosenberg out of the game in the seventh inning with a pair of runs. Spencer Howard made his second start of the series, hurling five complete innings, striking out a season-high nine batters and allowing just two runs, both crossing the plate in the second inning.

Salt Lake got the scoring started early, with a one-out single by Drew Ellis – his first hit as a Bee after joining the roster on Saturday – advancing Jack Lopez to third and placing runners on the corners in the second. A balk allowed the first run of the game to cross home, and this set up a two-out RBI bloop single off the bat of Chad Wallach to give the Bees a 2-0 edge. The River Cats responded in the fourth inning, with Donovan Walton driving a two-out RBI single through the middle of the infield that plated David Villar from third and cut the deficit to one run. In the seventh inning, Sacramento tied the game with a two-out triple by Brett Auerbach that scored Walton from first and later took its first lead of the game on a Turner Hill single that drove in Auerbach in the ensuing at-bat.

In the home half of the seventh, Bryce Teodosio singled with one out and later stole second, marking his 10th stolen bag of the season. Using some two-out magic, Anthony Mulrine and Jordyn Adams walked to allow for Soto’s game winning grand slam, giving Salt Lake an explosive 6-3 lead with his second home run of the season.

The Bees tallied another scoreless bullpen showing, as Hans Crouse (W, 3-0) relieved Rosenberg in the seventh inning and shut down the River Cats in a full inning of work while striking out two and walking one. Adam Kolarek picked up his first save of the season, putting together a scoreless 1.1 innings while allowing just one hit and striking out one.

The Bees will hit the road to Tacoma this week to face the Rainiers with the six-game series starting on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. MT.
