Backed by strong pitching once again, the Jupiter Hammerheads (12-6) extend their winning streak to four games defeating the Dunedin Blue Jays (9-9) by a final score of 5-2 on Thursday night at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium.
Both teams were held scoreless through the first four full innings of the ballgame. Jupiter would break the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out, Jake DeLeo reached on an infield single. Sam Praytor followed that with an RBI double to make it 1-0. Later in the frame with two outs and the bases loaded, Jesus Hernandez walked to bring in a run. Renny Hidalgo then scored from third base on a wild pitch to give the Hammerheads an early 3-0 lead.
Jupiter starter Brandon White (W, 2-0) finished the ballgame with six shutout innings allowing just two hits while striking out seven batters.
Dunedin make things interesting in the top of the seventh inning. Julio DiLone walked the first three batters of the frame and the Blue Jays capitalized afterwards with back-to-back RBI fielder's choices from Tucker Toman and Bryce Arnold to cut the Jupiter lead to 3-2.
However, the Hammerheads answered right back in the bottom of the frame. Praytor and Hidalgo drew back-to-back walks to lead off. Two batters later with one out, JT Mabry notched a two-RBI double to get the runs back and extend the lead to 5-2.
Riskel Tineo (Sv, 1) pitched the final three innings for Jupiter and recorded six strikeouts for Jupiter to earn his first save of 2024 securing the 5-2 victory. Mabry finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead all hitters. Hammerheads pitchers had a 23 1/3 scoreless innings streak going back to Tuesday broken in the seventh inning tonight.
