With only three more weeks to go in the regular season, the Jupiter Hammerheads keep climbing towards the playoffs after beating the Bradenton Marauders on Tuesday night. The Hammerheads took the first game 7-2 at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches.
After getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the first inning, the Hammerheads scored their first run in the bottom half. Ian Lewis connected for a triple and would come around to score after a Brett Roberts RBI.
Leading 1-0, Jupiter would add another run in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Jordan McCants came through with an RBI single to left field.
Newcomer Johnny Olmstead would get in on the action in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Marlins 19th round draft pick would collect his first RBI with a sac-fly to left field. Later in the game, the Southern California product would drive in two more runs with a single.
In the bottom of the sixth inning and with Jupiter leading 5-1, Carlos Santiago added some insurance. On the first pitch of the at-bat, Santiago connected for a no-doubt two-run homer over the right field bullpen. It was Santiago’s third homer of the season.
On the mound, Jhoniel Serrano started for Jupiter. The righty pitched four shutout innings with four strikeouts. After loading the bases in the first inning, Serrano retired the next six batters in order.
Tristan Stevens would come in out of the bullpen and earn the win after throwing four innings himself. The University of Texas alum struck out a career high seven batters on Tuesday night. Riskiel Tineo would pitch a hitless final frame for the Hammerheads as they take game one in the six-game series.
The Marauders and Hammerheads will continue their series at The Ballpark of the Palm Beaches on Wednesday night with a 6:30 PM start time and Baseball Bingo for Silver Sluggers night.
