MIDLAND, Mich. – Euribiel Ángeles delivered a soaring a 401-foot home run over the left-field berm to break a ninth-inning tie, and the Lansing Lugnuts (16-17) clinched a series victory over the Great Lakes Loons (20-13) with a 4-3 victory on a Mother’s Day Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond.
The Lugnuts triumphed in four of six games in the series. The winning formula: rallying from behind against the Loons’ bullpen and winning in their final at-bat each of the last three games.
In the finale, the Loons brought a 3-1 lead to the seventh inning and handed the ball to Livan Reinoso, but Henry Bolte knocked his fifth home run of the year – and second straight day with a homer – and Ángeles walked, stole second and scored on a Danny Bautista, Jr. RBI single to tie the score.
It was the Loons’ fourth blown save of the series after entering the week with only one blown save in their first 27 games.
Two innings later, with two outs and the bases empty, Ángeles walloped a Kelvin Ramirez offering well over the left field wall to finish the comeback effort.
Wander Guante blanked the Loons over the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to earn his first win, and Colton Johnson pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth for his fifth save, tying for the Midwest League lead.
The Lugnuts now return home, opening a six-game series with Lake County from May 14-19. Tickets are available for purchase at the Jackson® Field™ box office, available for purchase at (517) 485-4500 or online at milb.com/lansing.
