August 23, 2015

Charlotte, N.C. -- The Indianapolis Indians (76-53) erased a 2-0 deficit after the first inning and cruised to a 5-2 win over the Charlotte Knights (66-63) on Sunday night at BB&T Ballpark. Travis Snider slammed a two-run home run in the third to break a 2-2 tie and put the Tribe in front for good.

Chris Volstad (10-6) became the first Indians pitcher to reach 10 wins. He worked five innings and did not allow a run after conceding a pair in the bottom of the first inning. Radhames Liz made his first appearance out of the bullpen since June 20, and he struck out six batters over three scoreless frames. Blake Wood worked the ninth to record his league-leading 27th save of the season.

Josh Bell collected three more hits, and the prospect has now hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games. Bell scored a run and fell a home run shy of the cycle. Snider added a pair of singles to go along with his home run, and he is 6-for-12 since being signed by Pittsburgh and assigned to Indianapolis.

With Columbus falling to Durham on Sunday, the Tribe extended its lead in the International League West division to 4.0 games with 15 contests to play.
