Sea Dogs Continue Slide with 6-1 Loss

April 21, 2012
Portland, Maine - A three-run sixth inning propelled the Binghamton Mets (8-7) to the 6-1 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (4-13) Saturday afternoon at NYSEG Stadium.

For the second game in a row it was Josh Rodriguez that delivered the go ahead hit for the Mets. With one out in the sixth, Rodriguez singled home Jefry Marte and gave Binghamton the 2-1 lead. In the inning, Binghamton picked up four straight hits off of Portland reliever Will Latimer and plated three runs, the final coming on a double steal that scored Rodriguez from third. The Mets added two more runs in the eighth to bump their lead to five runs.

Latimer (1-1) took over for starter Chris Martin, and could not get through the sixth pitching two-thirds of an inning. Martin delivered a solid outing for the second time in as many starts. The tall righty gave up an earned run, on two hits, did not walk a batter, and fanned three in five innings of work.

Lefty Mark Cohoon took the mound for the B-Mets and faced the minimum through the first two innings. With one down in the third, Matt Spring delivered a solo home run to left and gave the Sea Dogs the early 1-0 lead. Cohoon (1-2) settled in after the home run and delivered seven innings of one-run, seven hit ball before his outing was over, he did not walk a batter and struck out three Sea Dogs' hitters. Kolbrin Vitek extended his league-high consecutive on-base streak to 17 games with a single in the fourth.
