Sea Dogs No-Hit in New Hampshire, Lose 6-0

May 22, 2012
MANCHESTER, NH- The Portland Sea Dogs made history on Monday night, but it wasn't the type of history they will want to remember. Brett Cecil, Danny Farquhar, and Ronald Uviedo combined to no-hit the Sea Dogs, as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened the four-game series with a 6-0 victory at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Both starting pitchers got off to strong starts in the opening innings, as neither side was able to muster a hit until the bottom of the third. That's when the Fisher Cats broke through, putting the first three runs on the board. Brian Jeroloman led off with a walk, advanced to second base on a wild pitch, and then around to third, courtesy of a sacrifice bunt by Brad McElroy. Ryan Goins stepped up next, and proceeded to knock in Jeroloman with an infield single to the hole on the left side. John Tolisano followed with a walk, and two batters later, Mike McDade doubled home his two teammates with a gap shot to right-center.

New Hampshire added to their lead in the fifth inning, beginning with a walk to Ryan Goins. Anthony Ranaudo was able to retire the next two hitters, but gave up an RBI single to Mike McDade, bringing his night to a close. Unfortunately for Ranaudo, McDade came around to score, as Chris Martin allowed a single to Mark Sobolewski, as well as a double to Brian Bocock, putting the Fisher Cats ahead, 6-0. Ranaudo ended up being charged with five runs in four and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and five walks, while striking out four.

In the opposing dugout, Brett Cecil was practically flawless, as he only allowed three batters to reach base - all on walks. The New Hampshire left-hander struck out eight, working five and two-thirds innings. Danny Farquhar took over in the sixth, striking out Juan Carlos Linares to end that frame. The reliever continued to keep the Sea Dogs out of the hits column on the scoreboard in the seventh and eighth, before Ronald Uviedo completed the no-hitter in the ninth.

This was the fifth time that the Sea Dogs have been no-hit, and the first time that it has been a combined no-hitter.
