PawSox Take Down the Indians, 6-5

June 6, 2012

Back to back homeruns by Ryan Kalish (2) and Ryan Lavarnway (5) in the fifth inning and a single by the designated hitter Che-Hsuan Lin in the eighth put the PawSox past the Indians 6-5 at McCoy Stadium tonight. That was Lin's first time in the DH position. Kalish has hit a homerun two games in a row and had two hits, one walk, a stolen base and a strike-out in tonight's game. He has reached base safely in his last eight plate appearances but struck out his ninth. Lin also had two hits as the PawSox improved to 38-22.

The PawSox got on the board in the third inning when Nate Spears and Kalish scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. Mauro Gomez led off the next inning with a walk and was followed up by a double to left center by Josh Kroeger (14) to put runners on base with no one out. Gomez scored on a wild pitch but the Indians got Che-Hsuan Lin to ground out to third and Nate Spears to fly out into a double play as Kroeger was called out at home.

In the eighth Lars Anderson gets on base by a fielding error, stole second on a strikeout and reached third by a throwing error. Anderson then scored on a single by Lin to take the lead 6-5.

Starter Billy Buckner (0-0) gave up seven hits and four earned runs while striking out three and walking three in four innings of work. Garrett Mock (3-1) earned the win with two strikeouts in one inning and Mark Melancon earns his tenth save of the season. Bryan Morris (1-2) got the loss for the Indians and gave up two hits and one run while striking out six in three innings. The series will continue Thursday night at 7:05 pm. Brandon Duckworth (5-1, 4.34) faces Jeff Locke (4-3, 3.10).
