PawSox Come Up Short Against Braves, 5-4

The PawSox lost 5-4 at McCoy Stadium with a two run ninth inning that ended with a fly out to right field. The Braves improved to 34-29 with the win as the PawSox move to 39-24. Ryan Kalish homered (3) in the sixth to center field for the Pawsox first run of the night. Kalish also had four hits in the game. Mauro Gomez, Nate Spears and Pedro Ciriaco had two hits each. Lars Anderson, and Tony Thomas each had one hit.

In the eighth inning with a runner on first, Lars Anderson doubled (13) to center field and scored Gomez from second. That made the score 3-2, but Josh Kroeger struck out to end the inning. In the ninth Mike Rivera was hit by a pitch, got to third on a single down right field line, and scored on a single up the middle by Ciriaco. Gomez flew out to right to give the Braves their third out. Gwinnett had two homeruns in the game; one in the sixth and one in the ninth.

Starter Tony Pena Jr. took the loss and gave up two runs, five hits, and struck out seven in five innings. For the Braves, Jose Lugo earned the win and gave up six hits, one run and struck out three in six innings. The series continues tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 pm. Justin Germano (6-3, 2.77) faces Todd Redmond (5-4, 3.52).
