Deja Vu: Bowie Blanks Portland 2-0

June 14, 2012
BOWIE, Md. - The Bowie Baysox (30-34) picked up a run in two separate innings and held the Portland Sea Dogs (27-38) scoreless in the 2-0 win Wednesday night at Prince George's Stadium. The Baysox end the season series winning the final four games against the Sea Dogs, and win four games to two games.

Rhyne Hughes broke a scoreless tie in the third with a sacrifice fly to left that plated Allan de San Miguel. After a quiet fourth, the Baysox struck for another run on an RBI single by Manny Machado in the fifth.

Chris Hernandez took the hill for the Sea Dogs and pitched well in his first career start against the Baysox. The southpaw weaved through the first two innings and did not allow a run.

Hernandez (3-6) took the loss, but delivered six solid innings and allowed just the two runs on six hits, he waked two and struck out one.

For the second game in a row, it was the Bowie pitching staff that baffled the Portland offense. The 'Dogs picked up three baserunners combined in the first four innings, but not one reached second base. Lefty Jacob Pettit (4-0) went the first five innings and allowed a hit to Matt Spring and two walks, he struck out five.

Mike Belfiore and Greg Burke finished up the one-hitter with four innings of no-hit, shutout baseball in back of their starter. In total, the Baysox arms delivered six perfect innings and retired the final 16 hitters in a row.

Since Bryce Brentz's grand slam with one out in the sixth inning of Tuesday's game, the Portland offense has not picked up a run, and has had just five hits in the 21 and two-thirds innings. Only one baserunner has reached scoring position in that time as well.
