Sea Dogs Blowout Senators 14-0

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs (29-40) scored a season high 14 runs as the Sea Dogs defeated the Harrisburg Senators (35-34) 14-0 Tuesday night at Hadlock Field. The Sea Dogs exploded for nine runs in the fourth inning and Chris Hernandez tossed seven shutout innings leading the Sea Dogs to the victory to open a three game homestand.

Chris Hernandez (4-6) fired seven shutout innings holding the Senators to five hits. He walked two and struck out three. Hernandez lowered his team leading ERA to 2.64 tossing 91 pitches, 58 for strikes. Hernandez who entered the game with the teams' best ERA (2.89) but a team high in losses (6) had been the victim of low run support as the Sea Dogs were shutout in four of his six losses. On Tuesday night, the Sea Dogs offense made-up for the run support in a big way.

Ryan Dent (3-for-5, 2R, 2 RBI) got the night started with a two run single in the second inning to give the Sea Dogs a quick 2-0 lead.

The first ten batters in the fourth inning reached base safely with the first nine all scoring as the Sea Dogs sent 14 men to the plate in a nine run inning. Derrick Gibson got the scoring started with a two run single. The inning was highlighted by an Oscar Tejeda grand slam which forced Harrisburg Senators starter Daniel Rosenbaum from the game. Juan Carlos Linares greeted reliever Marcos Frias with a triple and would score on a Bryce Brentz double. Marquez Smith capped-off the inning with a sacrifice fly to center scoring Rodriguez.

The Sea Dogs offense collected nine runs on seven hits off Harrisburg starter Daniel Rosenbaum (7-3). Rosenbaum entered the game with the fourth best ERA in the Eastern League with a 1.94 but saw his ERA rise to 2.57.

Jeremy Hazelbaker (2-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBI) launched his seventh home run of the year in the seventh off Patrick McCoy, a two run shot into the U.S. Cellular Pavilion extending the lead to 13-0.

Chorye Spoone and Chris Balcom-Miller each tossed a scoreless inning in relief of Hernandez.

All nine Portland starters collected at least one hit and six players had multi-hit games as the Sea Dogs combined to tie season high with 16 hits.

The two teams will play game two of the series Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. Lefty Drake Britton (1-0, 1.10) will get the start for the Sea Dogs.
