IronPigs Hold Off PawSox

The PawSox rallied late, but Lehigh Valley had an answer, scoring twice in the bottom of the eighth, wrapping up an 8-5 win. The clubs battled under 95 degree temperatures, as the Pigs evened the series at a game apiece. Lehigh now has sole possession pof first place in the North Division. Mauro Gomez was the offensive catalyst, with a double and a pair of home runs for the PawSox. Gomez has 19 homers so far in 2012. Gomez has 55 RBI. The other three PawSox hits came from Jose Iglesias, Ryan Lavarnway and Alex Hassan.

Tony Pena (0-6) took the loss, laboring through four and two thirds innings. Garrett Mock allowed a pair of runs in an inning. After 7 and a half innings the Sox had pulled to within a run at 6-5. Lehhigh scored a pair in the bottom of the inning to ice the win. The Pigs banged out 13 hits in their win. Pawtucket has dropped 12 of its' last 14 games.

The two teams will complete their day/night doubleheader on Sunday night at 6:35 p.m. Billy Buckner (1-2) will face the Pigs, who are scheduled to have former National League MVP Ryan Howard in their lineup on an ML rehab assignment (achilles).
