Chiefs Top PawSox with 5-1 Win

Syracuse (45-52) defeated the PawSox (54-45) 5-1 Wednesday night at McCoy Stadium. Che-Hsaun Lin had an RBI and Jose Iglesias led the PawSox with two hits.

Mark Teahan led off with a bunt for a single and then a 2-run homerun by Carlos Rivero gave the Chiefs the lead 2-0 after four innings.

With two outs in the fifth, the PawSox had back to back singles from J.C. Linares and Alex Hassan followed by a RBI single by Che-Hsaun Lin to cut the PawSox deficit to 2-1. Corey Brown scored on a RBI double by Jim Negrynch to put the Chiefs up 3-1 after seven innings. After a leadoff walk by Carlos Maldonado, Corey Brown hit a homerun to right center to extend the Chiefs lead, 5-1 in the top of the ninth. Brown led Syracuse with three hits.

PawSox starter Billy Buckner had a season high seven strikeouts through six innings. He took the loss after giving up six hits and two runs (1 homerun). Jeff Mandel earned the win for Syracuse. He pitched eight innings, gave up six hits and one run.

The final game of the 4-game set is tomorrow at 12:05 pm at McCoy. Zach Stewart (1-1, 3.74) faces Tanner Roark (4-12, 5.54).
