B-Mets Sting 'Dogs in Double-Dip 2-1, 3-1

Binghamton, NY - The Binghamton Mets (50-55) swept a doubleheader from the Portland Sea Dogs (47-60) 1-2, 1-3 Friday night at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, NY. The Sea Dogs are now 3-10 through the first 13 games and now have lost the season series against the Binghamton Mets.

Game 1 Recap: The Binghamton Mets picked up a couple of runs early and held on late to take down the Portland Sea Dogs 2-1 in game one of a doubleheader at NYSEG Stadium. The Sea Dogs fell to 0-5 in Binghamton with the loss.

Trailing 2-1 in the seventh and final frame, Ronald Bermudez hit a leadoff double off of B-Mets reliever Frank Francisco. Francisco, assigned to Binghamton on a MLB rehab assignment, bounced back and retired the next three in order and left Bermudez at second to end the game.

Reece Havens broke a scoreless tie in the third with an RBI single that plated Juan Lagares from third. Lagares led off the frame with a triple. Leading 1-0 in the fourth the B-Mets tacked on another run on an extra-base hit and a single. Jefry Marte doubled to lead off the inning and came around to score on Dustin Martin's single to put the Mets up 2-0.

The Sea Dogs' lone run came in the fifth when Bermudez scored on a Zach Gentile single after he reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. Cory Mazzoni (4-3) pitched six innings and allowed four hits and the lone run. The righty walked two and struck out five in the win.

Drake Britton (2-4) took the loss for the Sea Dogs. The lefty allowed the two runs on seven hits, he walked three and struck out seven. Brock Huntzinger pitched a scoreless sixth.

Prime Motor Group Player of the Game: Zach Gentile 1-2, RBI

Game 2 Recap: The Binghamton Mets took down the Portland Sea Dogs and completed the sweep of a doubleheader with a 3-1 win in game two. The Sea Dogs have now lost three in a row and remain winless at NYSEG Stadium in 2012.

Trailing 1-0 in the sixth, the Mets drew back-to-back walks to begin the inning and ended Mike MacDonald's night on the mound. Chris Balcom-Miller took over and retired the first two before giving up a three run blast to Dustin Martin that sent Binghamton in front for good 3-1. The home run for Martin was his second of the season.

Darin Gorski picked up the win and improved to 6-5. The lefty allowed just one run on six hits in six innings. Ryan Fraser locked down the win for Gorski in the seventh and picked up his first save with Binghamton.

Bryce Brentz got the scoring going in the second inning with a mammoth home run on the first pitch of the frame. The solo shot was his 13th and put the Sea Dogs in front 1-0.

Mike MacDonald (1-1) lasted five-plus innings in the affair, but suffered the loss as Balcom-Miller allowed both of his runners to score on the home run. The Maine native allowed two runs in his five-plus innings.

The Sea Dogs continue the four game series against the Mets with game three tomorrow night at 7:05 PM at NYSEG Stadium.
