Travelers map out 6-2 win on Saturday
04/20/2013 11:05 PM ET

North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers topped the Springfield Cardinals, 6-2, before 6,096 fans at Dickey-Stephens Park.

Arkansas (7-8) struck early with an unearned run in the bottom of the first, before stretching the lead with four in the third against RHP Seth Blair (L, 0-2).  The Travelers loaded the bases with only one down in the third, and DH Robbie Widlansky came through with a two-run single.  A wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by 2B Taylor Lindsey accounted for the inning's other two runs, leaving it at 5-0.

The Cardinals (7-8) started to chip away in the top of the fourth against RHP Matt Oye (W, 2-1).  CF Tommy Pham led off with a single to start the frame.  He then stole second base and drew an errant throw from C Jett Bandy, advancing Pham all the way to third on the play.  After 3B Ruben Gotay worked a walk, 1B Xavier Scruggs brought Pham in with a double play grounder that got the Cardinals on the board, 5-1.

After Arkansas stretched the lead back to five in the bottom of the fifth, the Cardinals again tried to rally in the top of the sixth.  2B Starlin Rodriguez began the frame with a base hit, before racing all the way home one out later when Pham ripped an RBI double down the left field line, bringing Springfield within four runs, 6-2.

However, both sides received scoreless relief from their respective bullpens and Arkansas held on for the 6-2 win.
