May 11, 2013

Bradenton, Fla. - The Marauders (13-23) fell for the second straight night at McKechnie Field, dropping their series finale against the Charlotte Stone Crabs (12-23) 4-1. Zack Dodson (L, 0-1) pitched six innings for Bradenton in his second start of the season.

Ryan Carpenter (W, 3-2) stifled the Marauders for the second time this season. Charlotte's top starting pitch logged seven innings, surrendering five hits and striking out six. He allowed just one run.

Charlotte got on the board in the fourth on a two-out, two-run homer from Hector Guevara off Dodson. Carpenter protected the 2-0 lead through the fourth by stranding two Marauders in scoring position with a pair of strikeouts.

Bradenton scored its lone run in the fifth. Taylor Lewis was hit by a pitch with one out. After Carlos Mesa struck out, Eric Avila tripled to center to bring in Lewis. Carpenter was able to limit the damage, inducing a grounder back to the mound by Alen Hanson.

Emmanuel De Leon surrendered his first runs of the season in the top of the ninth. Drew Vettleson smashed his fourth extra-base hit of the series, a two-run homer to right to give the Stone Crabs breathing room.

The Marauders brought the tying run to the plate with two outs in the ninth, but Austin Hubbard (Save, 4) was able to strike out Lewis to end the game.

The Marauders are off on Sunday, then go to Clearwater for a four-game interdivision series. Game one is Monday night at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast online at www.BradentonMarauders.com.
