MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Greg Miclat hit a two-run double in the top of the eighth inning to propel the Round Rock Express to a 4-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds in front of 9,079 fans on Sunday night at AutoZone Park.
Justin Christian (1-for-4) and Jermaine Curtis (2-for-5) each extended their hitting streaks to a season-high eight straight games. Third baseman Ryan Jackson had the club's other two hits.
The Redbirds jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Christian led off with a double off the center field wall. Christian would score on the following play as Curtis reached on a fielding error.
Castillo retired nine of the first 10 batters over the first three innings before getting into trouble in the top of the fourth. Round Rock plated the tying run a wild pitch, which was the club's first run of the series and snapped a stretch of 21.0 consecutive shutout innings by Memphis.
The Express went ahead at 2-1 in the top of the sixth as Joey Butler worked a walk from Sam Freeman to start the frame. Butler moved to second on a groundout and scored on an RBI single from the newly acquired Mark Teahen.
Memphis plated its final run in the bottom of the eighth on a passed ball. Reliever Evan Meek began the inning with a hit by pitch and a walk before Adron Chambers advanced both runners in scoring position with a deep fly ball to center.
Castillo earned a no-decision in his Triple-A debut, allowing one run on three hits and four walks in five innings. Freeman allowed one run on one hit and a pair of walks in two innings. Eric Fornataro (0-3) came away with the loss with two runs on four hits in two innings.
The Redbirds and Express conclude their series at 1:05 p.m. on Memorial Day afternoon at AutoZone Park. Two of the top three ERA leaders in the league will face off, as Memphis right-hander Michael Wacha (4-0, 2.05) takes on Round Rock righty Josh Lindblom (4-0, 2.08).
