Albuquerque Powers Past Memphis In Series Opener, 7-2

Carlos Martinez Hurls Three Scoreless In Triple-A Debut

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds opened their four-game series with a 7-2 loss to the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday evening at AutoZone Park.

The Redbirds (26-24) have now lost three in a row after winning the previous four straight and are now 1-4 against the Isotopes through the first five games of the season series.

Memphis was limited to four hits on the evening. Second baseman Kolten Wong went hitless to snap his team-leading 15-game hitting streak, which was the longest active streak in the league and matched a career-high.Outfielder Justin Christian singled in the ninth inning to extend his hitting streak to nine consecutive games.

Memphis scored its two runs in the third for a 2-0 advantage as Brock Peterson cashed in on a two-run single with the bases loaded. The Redbirds previously loaded the bases with a fielding error and a pair of walks.

Former Cardinals draft choice Alex Castellanos tied the game with a two-run homer into the YMCA Fogelman parking lot in the top of the fifth. The long ball was the slugger's seventh of the season.

Albuquerque put the game away after plating five late runs in the seventh and eighth frames, highlighted by a Rusty Ryal triple and Jeremy Moore two-run single.

In his Triple-A debut, Carlos Martinez struck out four while yielding a pair of base hits over three innings. He also walked one in 43 total pitches (25 for strikes).

Left-hander Nick Additon (3-2) took the loss piggybacking Martinez, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits with five strikeouts in four innings. His nine hits allowed matched a season-high set in his previous start.

Memphis native Matt Palmer allowed two unearned runs on four walks and four hits in 4 1/3 innings. Geison Aguasviva (2-2) took the win with 1 2/3 scoreless.

The Redbirds and Isotopes continue their series at 7:05 pm CT on Wednesday evening at AutoZone Park. Right-hander Maikel Cleto (2-2, 4.68) will toe the rubber against Albuquerque righty Angel Castro (4-2, 3.57).
