Byron Buxton promoted to Fort Myers

Among MWL leaders in several offensive categories

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that OF Byron Buxton has been promoted to the Fort Myers Miracle of the Florida State League. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.

The Twins selected Buxton in the first round (second pick overall) of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Appling County (GA) High School and in 68 games for the Kernels this season, he hit .341 with 15 doubles, 10 triples, eight HR and 55 RBI. He also stole 32 bases in 43 attempts and was among the Midwest League leaders in several categories including batting average, RBI, stolen bases and triples. He was also selected to the MWL West All-Star team as the starting center fielder for the 2013 MWL All-Star Summer Classic, recently played in Dayton, OH.

The Twins did not announce a corresponding move. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster is at 24 active players, one short of the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with two players currently on the disabled list.

The Kernels have an off day on Monday, June 24th and return to action with a noon game on Tuesday, June 25th when they host the Burlington Bees at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium to kick off a seven-game home stand that runs through Monday, July 1st.
