Come-From-Behind Rally Sinks Memphis, 4-3

Chad Huffman Drives In All Three Redbirds Runs
June 28, 2013

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Albuquerque Isotopes scored three runs on Victor Marte in the eighth inning for a come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds on Friday night at AutoZone Park.

With the loss, Memphis (40-42) dropped to 3-11 against Albuquerque this season and into second place behind Iowa in the PCL American Northern Division.

Dee Gordon did the damage from the leadoff spot, reaching base in all five plate appearances. Gordon went 3-for-4 with a triple, a walk, and two runs scored. Justin Sellers drove in two.

Chad Huffman was responsible for driving in all three runs for Memphis, adding a single and sacrifice fly. Memphis was unable to record an extra-base hit and went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Both clubs traded sac flies in the first inning. Gordon led off the contest with a triple and scored as Elian Herrera flew out to center. Redbirds leadoff man Ryan Jackson reached on a fielding error and later scored as Huffman hit a deep fly ball to left.

The game remained tied until the Redbirds loaded the bases with no out in the fifth, thanks to a walk and two hit by pitches. Huffman followed by scorching an infield grounder to short to allow McGregor to come home and score the go-ahead run.

Albuquerque came back in the eighth against Marte (2-2), scoring three runs for a 4-3 lead. Former Redbird Brian Barden singled in Gordon for the first run before Marte intentionally walked the bases full. Sellers then blooped a two-run single to center to score Chili Buss and Barden for the blown save.

Scott McGregor allowed one run on five hits and a pair of walks in five innings for a no-decision. Sam Freeman struck out three over two scoreless to extend his consecutive shutout streak by a reliever to a season-high 19 2/3 innings.

Blake Johnson gave up two runs (one earned) on a pair of hits. Josh Wall backed into the win with a run in one inning while Steve Ames converted his eighth save.

Right-hander Carlos Martinez (2-1, 1.82) will take the mound for Memphis in Saturday's 6:05 pm CT contest with the Isotopes. Albuquerque will counter with right-hander Matt Palmer (3-3, 4.35)
