June 29, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI - Christian Bergman pitched six strong innings to lead Tulsa past Corpus Christi 3-1 Saturday before 6,533 at Whataburger Field.

Josh Mueller went six-up, six-down in bridging to Juan Gonzalez, who earned save No. 2 with a perfect ninth.

Kiel Roling's 17th homer of the season - a two-out shot to the left-field berm off Mike Foltynewicz - staked Tulsa to a 1-0 first-inning advantage.

Drillers right fielder Tyler Kuhn saved a run in the fourth, running down Preston Tucker's liner with Hooks aboard at first and second.

Christhian Adames' towering two-out double to right-center sent Jayson Langfels (lead-off infield single) and Delta Cleary (walk) home for a 3-0 Tulsa lead the next inning. Foltynewicz (3-1) called it a night after five frames, three hits, four walks and five strikeouts. Half of his 83 pitches found the strike zone.

His relief, Ross Seaton, retired 12 of 13, striking out 5.

Corpus Christi broke through against Bergman during the sixth. Enrique Hernandez opened by doubling down the left-field line and later scored when Erik Castro bounced into a 4-6-3 double play.

Hernandez has hit in eight straight.
