Sea Dogs fall 5-0 in the series opener at New Hampshire

(Manchester, NH) - LHP Sean Nolin (6-2) tossed a career-high eight innings, leading the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (47-46) to a 5-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (46-48) on Monday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Portland has been shutout in three straight games, and has not scored a run in 27 innings. New Hampshire won their sixth straight game, as the 'Dogs suffered their fourth straight defeat.

2B Derrik Gibson (3-for-3) collected three of Portland's four hits. LF Kolbrin Vitek singled in the fifth.

RHP Mike McCarthy (0-3) retired the first 10 batters he faced, but ran into trouble in the fifth inning, allowing five runs on four hits. Andy Burns nailed a two-run double to the gap in left-centerfield. Adam Loewen had an RBI single and Melky Cabrera (MLB Rehab, 2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) crushed a two-run homer to right-center. McCarthy took the loss, working five innings on five runs and five hits.

Nolin scattered four hits, two walks and tied a season-high with nine strikeouts.

Portland's bullpen combined for three scoreless innings. Noe Ramirez tossed two innings on one hit and three strikeouts. Eric Niesen stranded two runners in the eighth.

The Sea Dogs and Fisher Cats continue their three-game series on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. RHP Bobby Lanigan (0-0, 0.00) makes his first start of the season for Portland. RHP Marcus Walden (5-9, 3.23) takes the mound for the 18th time of the season.
