PawSox Blank Bisons 1-0

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: AUGUST 20, 2013 

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Pawtucket's 1-0 shutout victory over Buffalo Tuesday night in front 7,649 fans secured a 7-1 homestand at McCoy Stadium.

Three and a half scoreless innings in the books, the PawSox would finally jump out in front in the series finale against Buffalo. In the 4th, Brock Holt and Ryan Lavarnway singled to start the frame. After a couple of outs, Drew Sutton singled to left to plate Holt to give Pawtucket a 1-0 lead. A walk loaded the bases, but a ground out ended the frame.

Anthony Ranaudo was in command from pitch number one as he faced just one over the minimum through 6.2 innings. While he allowed three hits and walked two, he had four double plays behind him. He threw 91 pitches, 61 strikes. Ryan Rowland-Smith entered in the 7th with two outs and allowed an infield hit, but retired Andy LaRoche on a fly out to center field to end the inning.

In the 8th, Buffalo threatened getting a lead-off single against Rowland-Smith forcing Jose De La Torre out of the bullpen. The righty would walk the first man he faced before striking out Jim Negrych. Ryan Goins, who was 0-for-13 in the series coming into the at-bat, bounced into his second double play of the night ended the threat. 

Pawtucket turned five double plays on the night, matching a franchise record that was first established August 15, 2000 at Rochester.

Anthony Carter would throw a perfect 9th to earn his 20th save of the season and secure the 1-0 victory. The shutout with the PawSox 10th of the season and did not allow a run to Buffalo for the final 21 innings they played.

Pawtucket won the season series with Buffalo 9-7 and outscored the Bisons 63-62 in a very tight and well played season set.    

The PawSox will begin the first of seven consecutive meetings with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with a four game set at PNC Field in Moosic, PA Wednesday night at 7:05pm. Pawtucket will send righty Allen Webster (7-4, 3.84) to the hill against Brett Marshall (7-9, 5.26) of the RailRiders.  

Pawtucket will return home for the final homestand of the regular season Sunday against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and Syracuse.
