PawSox Stumble in Game One, Fall 7-1

September 4, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 4, 2013

ROCHESTER, NY - The PawSox dropped the first game of their best-of-five series against Rochester by a 7-1 final score in front of 4,034 fans at Frontier Field.

It did not take Rochester long to crack the score column against PawSox starter Anthony Ranaudo as the Red Wings plated a pair of first inning runs. After a lead-off single, James Beresford snuck a double down the right field line to put runners at second and third with no outs. A sacrifice fly by Eduardo Escobar scored the first run and Chris Parmelee followed with an RBI single to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead.

Pawtucket responded in the second as Bryce Brentz launched a solo homer off the video board in deep left center to make it a 2-1 game.

Rochester fired back at Ranaudo plating a run with two outs courtesy of a Beresford RBI single. Ranuado would pitch to one batter in the 3rd before being removed after a pop up dropped on the infield for a single. Brock Huntzinger came in and allowed a single. After a force out at third and a strikeout, the Red Wings pulled off a double steal before Eric Fryer singled to center scoring two more giving Rochester a 5-1 lead.

The Red Wings scored again in the 4th as Aaron Hicks delivered a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 6-1. Huntzinger would leave the game with the bases loaded and two out, but Jose De La Torre struck out Ray Olmedo to get out of the jam.

In the 6th, Rochester added another run to their lead as Eric Farris lined a single to left field scoring Eduardo Escobar who had double to start the inning.

Red Wings starter Cole De Vries tossed six strong innings allowing a run on five hits while striking out six.

The PawSox got a pair of scoreless frames from Chris Carpenter and Allen Webster in the 7th and 8th respectively, but the Rochester Red Wings score too early and too often in a 7-1 victory.

Pawtucket got a two hits apiece by Jackie Bradley Jr. and Bryce Brentz, who homered and doubled.

The PawSox will play Game Two of the Governors' Cup Semi-Finals in Rochester Thursday at 7:05pm. Pawtucket will send major league rehabber Clay Buchholz to the mound against Red Wings right hander P.J. Walters (7-5, 4.18).
