Legends in the Community

            (WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends' schedule includes two stops in Lexington and one in Corbin next week, as well as a fundraising event at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Saturday, October 19.

            Tuesday, October 15: - Big L will appear at Ashland, Inc. as part of an employee appreciation event and a United Way campaign celebration.

            Thursday, October 17: - Big L will be at Sandersville Elementary School all day to help the school celebrate its victory in the Lexington Legends/Chick-fil-A 2013 Hit the Books competition. In "Hit the Books," a baseball diamond is used to record credit for a student's reading. For every book a student reads, a teacher places his or her initials on a base. When the student has all three bases and home plate initialed by the teacher, the student may bring a "Hit the Books" bookmark to the Legends' box office at Whitaker Bank Ballpark to exchange it for two tickets to one of four Legends home games. For the second straight year, Sandersville Elementary had the most bookmarks redeemed on its designated game night and won a luncheon assembly provided by the Legends and Chick-fil-A.

            Friday, October 18: Big L and Pee Wee will appear at Corbin Middle School as part of an event for Project Fit America, a national agency that works with schools and educators to create new opportunities for children to be active, fit and healthy.

            Saturday, October 19: The Bluegrass Autism Walk, a fundraising event presented by the Autism Society of the Bluegrass, will take place at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Proceeds will be used for education, advocacy and support for central Kentuckians and their families, caregivers and the professionals who work with them. Registration and a vendor/agency fair will begin at 10 a.m., and the 2K walk begins at 11:30 a.m. A variety of activities for kids and families will be available, and a silent auction will be held.

            "The Legends and Big L are as busy as ever, even though our baseball season is over," said Legends director of community relations and special events Sarah Bosso. "Being active in our community in a variety of ways is something we take pride in, and it's a year-round commitment for us.   It's also a lot of fun to meet Legends fans everywhere we go."
