Crouse Rips EL-Leading Fourth Triple

Mets Take Series With Fisher Cats With 6-0 Win Sunday

Michael Crouse and Ryan Schimpf had extra-base hits, but the New Hampshire Fisher Cats dropped the opening home series of the season with a 6-0 loss to Binghamton on Sunday afternoon.

Hansel Robles (1-0) pitched five scoreless innngs for the Mets (7-3), who took three of four from the Fisher Cats (3-7). Robles allowed four hits, walked two, and struck out six in picking up his first win.

Binghamton took advantage of ten New Hampshire walks and three hit-batsmen on Sunday. They plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead. The Mets managed only one hit in the frame. Matt Clark walked and consecutive hitters Dustin Lawley and Cory Vaughn were hit by pitches. Starter and loser Aaron Sanchez then walked Travis Taijeron to make it 1-0. Xorge Carrillo's sacrifice fly knocked in another run. Wilfredo Tovar then singled to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.

Sanchez worked 3.2 innings in his first start in New Hampshire for the Fisher Cats. He allowed three runs on four hits. He walked four and struck out four.

The Mets added a run in the top of the seventh inning. Darrell Ceciliani singled, moved to second on a single by Matt Reynolds, stole third and scored on a passed ball. Binghamton tacked on two more in the ninth inning after drawing two walks. Lawley doubled and Vaughn added a sacrifice fly.

Schimpf doubled in the Fisher Cats first inning and Crouse hit his Eastern League-leading fourth triple. But New Hampshire left the bases loaded in the third and fifth innings without scoring a run in either frame against Robles.

Tony Davis worked 2.1 scoreless innings in a strong relief effort for the Fisher Cats without allowing a hit. He walked two with one strikeout.

Cody Satterwhite, John Church and Jon Velasquez completed the shutout for Binghamton, retiring the final 11 batters of the game.
