Sea Dogs complete the sweep, beat 'Cats 6-1

Augliera tosses six scoreless, Betts 4-for-5 with a homer

New Britain, Conn. - The Sea Dogs completed a three-game sweep of the New Britain Rock Cats with a 6-1 victory on Saturday night at New Britain Stadium. Portland has tied a season-high with four straight wins and improved to 6-1 against the 'Cats this season.

Mike Augliera (2-1) beat New Britain for the second straight Saturday. The righty notched his first quality start in Double-A, hurling six scoreless frames on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Augliera worked out of jams in the second and third innings, and improved his scoreless streak to 10.2 innings.

Portland came out swinging against losing pitcher Sean Gilmartin (1-2), scoring twice in their first turn. Mookie Betts (4-for-5) led off the game with a single and scored on Shannon Wilkerson's RBI double. With the single, Betts has reached base safely in 43 straight games dating back to last August 2nd. The Sea Dogs second run came on Travis Shaw's bloop-RBI single to left.

Stefan Welch knocked in his team-leading 11th run with a two-out single in the fifth, giving Portland a 3-0 advantage. In the eighth, Henry Ramos doubled home a run and scored on a wild pitch. Betts capped of his second 4-hit game in Double-A, leading off the ninth with a solo-homer (#2) over the left-field wall.

New Britain scored their lone run in the seventh on Matt Koch's solo-homer off reliever Mike McCarthy. Matty Ott and Robby Scott closed out the win with scoreless relief appearances.

The Sea Dogs received a hit from eight of nine starters and continue to lead the league in hitting with a .303 average. Portland has won six of nine on the road, and picked up their first 3-game sweep away from Hadlock Field since last April 30-May 2 at Reading.

The Sea Dogs are off for Easter Sunday and open up a four-game series on Monday night against the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium, game time is 6:35 PM.
