PawSox Shutout by 'Riders 3-0

May 20, 2014

Pawtucket, RI - Scranton starter Shane Greene combined with two relievers on a six-hit shutout and Adonis Garcia homered and collected four hits as the RailRiders blanked the Pawtucket Red Sox, 3-0, Tuesday afternoon in front of 4,143 fans at McCoy Stadium to win the four-game series 3-games-to-1.

Pawtucket (25-22) lost the final three games of the series for its first three-game skid of the season. The PawSox, who have now dropped six of their last eight overall, lost a series at home for the first time in 2014 (1-1-5).

Greene (1-2) tossed six scoreless innings and allowed only four hits and two walks while collecting five strikeouts. He earned his first Triple-A victory in his seventh appearance. Garcia, who has now hit in 17 consecutive games, went 4-for-5 to pick up half of Scranton's eight hits.

Garcia's solo home run against Pawtucket starter Anthony Ranaudo (4-3) opened the scoring in the third. He then doubled the lead with an RBI single in the seventh against reliever Rich Hill, part of a two-run inning that also included an RBI hit from Ramon Flores.

Jose Ramirez (1.1 innings) and Robert Coello (1.2 innings) finished the shutout for Scranton. Coello struck out four of the six men he faced. Pawtucket stranded nine men on base, including five over the final three innings. The PawSox had a runner thrown out a home plate to end the fourth inning on a Brandon Snyder double.

Ranaudo earned a hard-luck loss after allowing only one run and four hits in 5.2 innings pitched with seven strikeouts. Snyder (two doubles) was the only Pawtucket batter with multiple hits.

After a day off Wednesday, the PawSox head on the road for a four-game series at Syracuse beginning Thursday night. Pawtucket right-hander Matt Barnes (1-1, 2.89) is scheduled to start against Chiefs righty Ryan Tatusko (1-5, 2.31) with first pitch at 7:00 pm. Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 6:45 pm.

Following the four-game trip, Pawtucket returns to McCoy Stadium for a four-game series with the Gwinnett Braves from Monday, May 26th through Thursday May 29th. Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
