PawSox Edged by Tides, 3-1

May 31, 2014

(Norfolk, VA) - Norfolk starter Suk-min Yoon allowed just one run in seven strong innings and combined with two relievers on a six-hitter as the Tides topped the Pawtucket Red Sox, 3-1, Saturday night at Harbor Park to even the four-game series at one win apiece.

Yoon (2-5) allowed five hits including a solo home run to Travis Shaw, his first at the Triple-A level. The right-hander allowed the leadoff runner to reach base in five of his seven innings but did not once allow that runner to score.

Steven Wright, transferred to the Pawtucket roster before the game to continue his MLB injury rehab assignment, started for the PawSox (28-29) and allowed three runs (two earned) and seven hits in six innings.

Wright (0-1) allowed two-out runs in the fourth and sixth innings to provide the winning margin for Norfolk. With the score tied at one in the fourth, a two-out error on second-baseman Ryan Roberts opened the door for the Tides' go-ahead rally.

Chris Marrero and Xavier Paul followed Roberts' error with back-to-back singles, with Paul's hit bringing home Brett Wallace to make the score 2-1. In the sixth, Wallace walked with two outs and was driven home by Marrero's RBI double that sailed over the head of centerfielder Shannon Wilkerson.

Pawtucket turned four groundball double plays behind Wright and reliever John Ely (two innings, three hits, no runs) to keep the score within striking distance. Norfolk relievers Chris Jones (eighth inning) and Evan Meek (ninth) finished the victory with Meek earning his first save of the season.

Christian Vazquez (2-for-4, double) was the only PawSox player with more than one of the team's six hits. Alexi Casilla collected an RBI single for Norfolk in the third inning to open the scoring.

Game three of the series is slated for a 1:05 pm first pitch on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Anthony Ranaudo (5-3, 2.90) will get the ball for manager Kevin Boles, while righty Nick Additon (3-1, 2.56) is expected to start for the Tides. Radio coverage on 920 AM (WHJJ) and also streaming online begins at 12:50 pm.

Following the road trip the PawSox return to McCoy Stadium for an eight-game homestand, beginning with four games against Louisville beginning on Saturday, June 7th. Good seats are still available at the McCoy Stadium box office, by calling (401) 724-7300 or by visiting pawsox.com.
