Offense Sputters In 6-1 Loss

Modesto outhits Lake Elsinore 13 to 8

Modesto, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm were outhit thirteen to eight in a 6-1 loss to the Modesto Nuts Tuesday night, falling to three games back of first in the California League South standings.

Colin Rea (L, 5-4) made his eleventh start of the season. The Cascade, IA native gave up four runs on nine hits through 5.1 innings of work, but three of those came in the bottom of the sixth with the game tied 1-1.

The lone Storm score came in the fifth. Jeremy Rodriguez plated Jeremy Baltz with an RBI single to tie the game.

Modesto added two insurance runs in the eighth off of reliever Roman Madrid, who worked the final 2.2 innings.

Alberth Martinez was the lone Storm starter to record multiple hits,which included his first triple of the season. Diego Goris collected his first three-bagger of the season as well.

The loss drops Lake Elsinore (34-26) to three games behind the Lancaster JetHawks, who have won ten of their last eleven games, for first place in the South.

Bryce Morrow (1-0, 3.05 ERA) will try and right the ship for the Storm in game two of the series tomorrow night. Ryan Carpenter (1-1, 2.20 ERA) gets the start for Modesto (20-40). First pitch is slated for 7:05pm.
