Caughel Named Pitcher of the Week

Second time in three weeks that he has won the award

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Quakes' pitcher Lindsey Caughel took home his second California League Pitcher of the Week honor in three weeks on Monday. Caughel also won the award on June 30.

Since returning from a strained oblique that sidelined him for more than a month in the First Half, Caughel has been dominant for the Quakes. In his first four outings of the Second Half, Caughel went 4-0 with a 0.35 ERA, 28 strikeouts and just four walks in 26 innings. He only gave up one earned run over that span.

Caughel won the honor on the back of seven shutout innings against Lake Elsinore on July 9. In that game, he struck out a season-high nine and did not walk a batter. The victory was Rancho's 19^th in 21 games.

The award is Caughel's second of the season, and it is the fifth weekly honor for the Quakes in 2014. In the First Half, Corey Seager, Chris Jacobs and Aaron Miller all earned Cal League Player of the Week honors.

The Rancho righty is in his second season with the Quakes. In 2013, he led the team in innings (116.2) and strikeouts (112) while finishing seventh in the league in ERA among qualified pitchers (4.01). The Dodgers selected Caughel in the 23^rd round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Stetson University.

Caughel and the Quakes hit the road after a league-wide off day on Tuesday for seven road games against the North Division. Rancho opens up a three-game set in San Jose on Wednesday followed by four against Bakersfield.
