Fox Selected as Eastern League Player of the Week

Slugger blasted four home runs and drove in 14 runs over seven-game stretch

(READING, Pa.)---Reading Fightin Phils infielder and designated hitter Jake Fox has been named Eastern League Player of the Week on Monday for the period of July 21st to July 27th. The honor is a first for Fox.

Over seven games for the Fightins last week, the 32-year old hit .440 (11-for-25) with three doubles, four home runs, 14 RBIs, and five runs scored. With seven extra-base hits, Fox posted a staggering 1.040 slugging percentage along with a .517 on-base percentage for a 1.557 OPS to lead the Eastern League last week. The slugger also led Eastern League hitters in RBIs, home runs, slugging percentage and total bases (26) while tying for the lead in extra-base hits. He was also among league leaders in on-base percentage (Tied-3rd), batting average (5th), and doubles (Tied-5th). 

Through 41 games with Reading this season, Fox is hitting .351 (54-for-154) with a team-leading 14 home runs and 45 RBIs. He was acquired by the Phillies from the Vaqueros de la Laguna of the Mexican League on June 13th where he was hitting .307 with 16 homers, 47 runs scored, and 46 RBIs in 57 games. 

Between Reading and Vaqueros de la Laguna, Fox has knocked 30 total home runs, fifth-best among all minor leaguers, with 91 RBIs, tied for second among all levels.

Prior to the 2014 season, Fox played in Reading for the final month of the 2012 season , hitting five home runs in 17 games to help lead the club to an Eastern League playoff berth. 

Originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2003 draft, Fox made his major league debut with the team in 2007 and went on to play four seasons in the majors with Chicago (2007, 2009), Oakland (2010), and Baltimore (2010-11). In 193 career major league games, Fox hit .237 with 20 home runs and 73 RBIs.
