Captains and Snappers Split Twin Bill

(Eastlake, OH)- The Lake County Captains and Beloit Snappers split a double header on Monday Night. The Captains won the opener 9-8 on a walk-off homerun by Dorssys Paulino. The night cap went to Beloit by a final of 6-3. The Captains finished with a record of 4-19 vs. the Western Division in 2014.

In game one, Beloit took the early lead. Matt Chapman tripled and scored on a single from B.A. Vollmuth and the score was 1-0 Snappers. Lake County tied the ballgame in the bottom of the fifth inning. With one out on Dorssys Paulino on first base, Richard Stock doubled to right field and Paulino scored from first base. The score was evened at 1-1 after five innings.

Beloit scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning. In the inning, the Snappers used three hits, an error and sacrifice fly to plate the three runs. The Snappers led 4-1 headed to the bottom of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Captains scored four runs and took the lead. With the bases loaded and one out, Grant Fink doubled home three and the Captains tied the game at 4-4. Brain Ruiz then singled home Fink with two outs and the score was 5-4 Captains.

Beloit re-took the lead in the top of the seventh inning. Beloit sent nine men to the plate and scored four times to take the 8-5 lead. In the inning, Branden Cogswell had the big hit, an RBI single to give the Snappers the lead.

Lake County score four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning capped by a walk-off three run homer by Dorssys Paulino and the Captains won game 1 by a final of 9-8.

In game two the ballgame was tied at 1-1 headed to the top of the fourth inning. Beloit's Matt Chapman hit a solo homerun to lead off the inning and two batters later Phil Pohl connected for a two run shot and the score was 4-1 Snappers.

The Captains made it a 4-2 game in the bottom of the fourth inning but in the top of the fifth inning a two run homer from Tyler Marincov made the score 6-2 Snappers. A Nellie Rodriguez single cut the lead to 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

RHP Jordan Milbrath (3-10) started the first game for the Captains and did not earn a decision. Milbrath pitched four innings and allowed one earned run on six hits. Milbrath walked one and struck out one. Milbrath hit one batter. Anderson Polanco pitched two innings and allowed three runs, two earned runs on three hits and three strikeouts. Trevor Frank (4-5) earned the win. 

RHP Lou Trivino (6-7) started game one for Beloit. Trivino twirled five innings and allowed three earned runs on six hits, two walks and he struck out four. Trivino did not get a decision. Bobby Wahl pitched one inning and allowed two earned runs on two hits and one strikeout. Joel Seddon took the loss in game one.

RHP Robbie Aviles (1-1) started the second game for Lake County and didn't get a decision. Aviles pitched one inning and fanned one. Alexis Paredes (3-3) allowed six hits, four earned runs and allowed two homers. Paredes took the loss. Carlos Melo pitched two innings and allowed two earned runs on one walk and one hit. The hit was a homerun. Justin Brantley pitched one inning of relief for the Captains.

RHP Joe Michaud (3-0) started game two for the Snappers and earned the win. Michaud pitched five innings and allowed three earned runs on eight hits and three strikeouts. Brendan McCurry pitched the final two innings for Beloit.

The Captains will hit the road for a brief three-game road trip. Lake County will travel to Comstock Park, Michigan to take on the West Michigan Whitecaps. On Tuesday, Lake County will send Caleb Hamrick (3-5, 6.56) to the mound and the Whitecaps will counter with RHP Chad Green (3-4, 3.53). First Pitch is at 7:00 PM from Fifth Third Ballpark.
