Selena Tribute Night August 16

metroPCS, Hooks, Fans Honor Tejano Legend
July 29, 2014

CORPUS CHRISTI - The Corpus Christi Hooks and metroPCS announced Tuesday plans to honor the late Tejano star Selena in conjunction with the team's Saturday, August 16 game at Whataburger Field vs. the Arkansas Travelers.

"Selena Tribute Night and the Selena Foundation Back-to-School Supply Drive afford us the opportunity to celebrate her life and legacy, plus make a difference in the lives of Coastal Bend school children," Hooks president Ken Schrom said. "Selena had a heart for this community and her family carries that on. That resonates with us, so we're delighted to provide a platform for this joint effort."

Fans who bring back-to-school items to Whataburger Field on the 16th receive free General Admission tickets for the 7:10 Texas League game. metroPCS employees have volunteered to collect the supplies, which will go to the United Way's Operation SOS (Supply Our Students).

Gates open at 5:40 and the first 2,500 in attendance receive a Hooks Flexfit Cap from Hilliard Munoz Gonzales. Local author Andy Purvis signs copies of his book, "Greatness Continued" pregame at Hook, Line & Sinker.

In-game vignettes of Selena highlight the evening and fans are invited to remain afterwards for a postgame movie.
