Sky Sox Snap 8-Game Road Losing Streak with 4-2 Win in Sacramento

Christian Bergman makes his second rehab start, tosses 7 strong
August 14, 2014

In his second rehab start since breaking a bone in his left hand, RHP Christian Bergman (5-4) pitched superbly, aiding the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (50-75) to a 4-2 victory over the Sacramento River Cats (70-55) on Wednesday night at Raley Field in Sacramento. The win snapped an eight-game road skid and is the Sky Sox' first on the road since July 21st in Nashville.

Bergman rebounded from a tough outing in his first rehab start with seven excellent innings, allowing just one run (zero earned) on four hits, while striking out four batters and walking one.

For the River Cats, RHP Zach Neal (5-7) also pitched solid, but was on the losing side, tossing seven innings. Neal allowed two runs, while scattering six hits, with three strikeouts and two walks.

On the offensive side of things, Sacramento took the 1-0 lead in the first inning for the second night in a row on a Kyle Blanks sacrifice fly. The lead held until the sixth when Rafael Ynoa led off with his third home run of the season to tie the game, followed by doubles from Cristhian Adames and Matt McBride. McBride's double drove in a second run to give the Sky Sox the one-run lead.

In the eighth, the Sox tacked on two insurance runs thanks to RBI singles from Kyle Parker and Angelys Nina.

The River Cats scratched out a run in the bottom of the eight with Daric Barton's sacrifice fly off RHP Brooks Brown, but Brown went on to pitch a scoreless ninth for his seventh save of the season.

Ynoa, Adames, Parker and Nina each collected two hits for the Sky Sox. Adames' two-hit game was his sixth multi-hit game during his current 9-game hitting streak.

The Sky Sox take on the River Cats at 8:05 p.m. (MT) Thursday when LH Brian Burres (1-6, 7.14) takes on RHP Matt Buschmann (7-6, 4.68).
