August 25, 2014

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds regained sole possession of first place in the PCL American Southern Division with a 1-0 shutout of the Fresno Grizzlies on Monday night a AutoZone Park.

Combined with a Nashville loss, Memphis now leads by one game in the division with seven games remaining.

Catcher Ed Easley extended his hitting streak to 10 games with a pair of hits. Shortstop Pete Kozma also added two hits.

Easley was responsible for the Redbirds only run in the bottom of the fourth. After Xavier Scruggs reached on a strikeout combined with a wild pitch, Easley lined an RBI double down the right field line.

Kevin Siegrist and Eric Fornataro (S, 15) each tossed two shutout frames to secure Memphis' 13th shutout of the season, tied with Iowa for the league lead.

Memphis and Fresno continue its series at 7:02 pm CT on Tuesday at AutoZone Park. Right-hander Boone Whiting (4-6, 3.63) will man the bump against Grizzlies left-hander Mike Kickham (8-8, 4.23).
