PawSox Fall Short, Lose 4-2

September 16, 2014

(Charlotte, NC) - For the second straight season, the Omaha Storm Chasers hoisted the Gildan Triple-A National Championship trophy after defeating the Pawtucket Red Sox, 4-2, Tuesday night in Charlotte.

Pawtucket was the first to crack the score column in this winner take all National Championship as Rusney Castillo blasted the very first pitch he saw into the left center field bleachers for a solo homer, his first on American soil.

Omaha came right on back in the 2nd, though, as Cheslor Cuthbert homered to left off of Edwin Escobar to tie the game 1-1.

Neither team could cash in with runners in scoring position until the top of the 4th when Brett Hayes led off with a double for the Storm Chasers. After a fly ball moved him to third, Hayes scored on a sacrifice fly by Cuthbert to take their first lead, 2-1.

Into the bottom of the 5th and Mother Nature came calling delaying the game for an hour and 46 minutes.

Escobar did not resume on the mound after the delay going five innings allowing two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out six.

Into the 6th and the PawSox still down a run, Travis Shaw launched a solo homer to tie the game, 2-2. He finished 3-for-4 on the night.

Omaha would take the lead for good in the 7th as Brett Hayes hit a two-run homer off of PawSox reliever Miguel Celestino to make it a 4-2 advantage.

The PawSox season comes to an end with that loss; however, the team will host a welcome home rally at McCoy Stadium Wednesday at roughly 12:30pm to celebrate the Governors' Cup Championship and a tremendous 2014 season.
