Fightins Prospect Profile: Jesse Biddle

Growing up just an hour away in Philadelphia, Jesse Biddle could add a veteran presence to the Reading Fightin Phils rotation in 2015 as he looks to bounce back from an injury-plagued season. 

Selected by the Phillies in the first round of the 2010 draft, Biddle made his Double-A debut with the Fightins in 2013 as a member of the Opening Day roster. That season, Biddle posted a 3.64 ERA over a league-leading 27 starts as he excited Baseballtown by striking out 154 with his famed curveball. The southpaw earned a trip to the Eastern League All-Star Game and was an MLB Future Game selection alongside teammate Maikel Franco.

Biddle returned to Reading in 2014 at the start of the season once again and went 3-5 with a 3.14 ERA over 11 starts before succumbing to a concussion during May's hail storm in Berks County that would seem to derail his season. He returned to the club in August after a stint in Clearwater before going down to a quadriceps injury.

This year, the 23-year old ranks as the no.7 prospect in the Phillies organization according to MLB.com and is projected to be a Major League starter. His upcoming season could be the first step to getting closer to that goal.
