Fightins leave Portland with series win

Zach Eflin pitched six shutout innings while the offense scored 10 runs in a 10-2 over the Sea Dogs

The Fightin Phils (2-1) left Portland Sunday afternoon with a series win over the Sea Dogs (1-2) as they won 10-2. Zach Eflin (1-0) pitched six shutout innings in his Double-A debut while offense scored 10 runs off 11 hits.  

Reading got going in the top of the third inning of Sea Dogs starter Mike Augliera (0-1) as Cameron Perikins hit a two-run single to score Gabriel Lino and KC Serna to give the Fightins a 2-0 lead. Reading extended their lead to 4-0 in the top of the 4th inning off Augliera as Carlos Alonso hit a two-run double. Reading scored a run in the top of the 5th inning as Art Charles hit a RBI single off reliever Simon Mercedes to give the Fightins a 5-0 lead.  

Brock Stassi continued his stellar series as he hit a three-run home run off Mercedes in the top of the 5th inning to give Reading an 8-0 lead. The Fightins capped off their scoring in the top of the 7th inning as Gabriel Lino hit a sacrifice fly and KC Serna hit a RBI single to take a 10-0 lead over the Sea Dogs.

Portland scored two runs off Ryan O'Sullivan in the bottom of the 8th inning to cut the deficit to 10-2. Ethan Stewart and Stephen Schackleford each pitched scoreless innings in relief.  

Eflin retired 18 out of the 23 batters he faced. He struck out two batters with one walk and four hits in six innings of work to earn his first win of the season. Aguliera allowed four runs (two earned) in 3 2/3 innings as he received the loss for the Sea Dogs.

The Fightin Phils continue their road trip on Monday evening as they begin a three-game series with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. First pitch is at 6:35 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio AM 1240/FM 98-5 and fightins.com.
