Ison Delivers Walk Win

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains have struggled offensively during the early portion of the 2015 season, but sometimes one at bat can start to turn things around for a team. That at bat came from Bobby Ison in the bottom of the 9th inning on Friday night. Ison delivered a walk off base hit to give the Captains a 4-3 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps.

The Captains grabbed the early lead in the bottom of the 4th inning. Yu-Cheng Chang doubled to leftfield to start the inning. He would advance to third on a ground out from Bobby Bradley. Chang then came in to score on a wild pitch by Whitecaps starter Spencer Turnbull.

The Captains held the one run lead until the top of the 7th inning. The first six Whitecaps would reach base to start the inning. After reaching on a fielder's choice, Zach Shepherd came around to score the tying run on a Captains throwing error. With two runners on after the error, Joey Pankake singled to score both runners for a 3-1 Whitecaps lead.

The Captains answered back in the bottom of the 8th inning when they used another Whitecaps wild pitch and a Bobby Bradley sacrifice fly to tie the game at 3.

In the bottom of the 9th inning it was Dorssys Paulino who got the rally started. He singled to begin the inning. With one out, Sicnarf Loopstok walked to push the winning run to second. Ison then delivered the game winning single with two outs and a 2-2 count to score Paulino from second.

Highly touted Cleveland Indians prospect, Justus Sheffield, got the start and sailed through the first 4.2 innings. He allowed just 2 hits. Sheffield walked 2 and struck out 6. Twice he was able to strand runners in scoring position as he extended his scoreless innings streak to 9.2 innings to start the season.

David Speer would then work 3.1 innings in relief. He allowed 5 hits and 3 runs, 2 earned. Speer struck out 3. JP Feyereisen (1-0) worked a perfect 9th inning to earn the win. He struck out 2.
