Rancho Rips Elsinore on Saturday

Quakes pound out season-high 17 hits in win
April 19, 2015

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Season-highs in both runs and hits helped lead Rancho Cucamonga to their fourth straight win on Saturday night, as they hammered the Lake Elsinore Storm at LoanMart Field, 13-3.

The Rancho offense was at its best in helping the Quakes to their largest winning streak of the year, as they pounded out 17 hits.

Six different Quakes enjoyed a multi-hit game, with Adam Law and Brandon Trinkwon each enjoying a three-hit effort.

For a second straight night, the Quakes enjoyed an early lead, as they plated three in the first against Storm starter Justin Livengood (0-2). Joey Curletta put the Quakes on the board with an RBI double, making it 1-0. With the bases loaded and one out, Law was hit by the first pitch he saw, making it a 2-0 game. Dillon Moyer followed with a sac fly, giving the Quakes a three-run advantage.

Quakes' starter Michael Johnson wasn't terribly sharp in the second inning. After facing just three batters in the first, Johnson issued four walks in the second inning, forcing in a pair of runs to make it a one-run game at 3-2.

Rancho answered in the bottom of the inning, making it a two-run game on an RBI single by Brandon Trinkwon.

Lake Elsinore's Robert Kral took Johnson deep in the third, pulling the Storm back to within a run, at 4-3.

That's as close as the Storm would get though, as the Quakes tallied one in the fifth, three in the sixth, four more in the seventh, and then a run in the eighth to cap the evening at 13-3.

Jarek Cunningham led the club with three RBIs, including a two-run single to cap the four-run seventh.

Johnson would be replaced after four innings, as A.J. Vanegas (1-0) took over and retired all six batters he faced to earn the win.

Vanegas was one of three Rancho relievers to throw zeroes on Saturday night, as Ramon Benjamin and Jacob Rhame combined for the final three frames of scoreless relief.

The Quakes (7-3) still remain tied atop the Cal League South Division standings after their fourth straight win. Rancho eyes the four-game series-sweep on Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm. Left-hander Luis De Paula (0-0) will make his first start and second appearance of the year, as he'll make the spot-start for Jose De Leon. The Storm (3-7) will counter with right-hander Ryan Butler (1-0).

Sunday will be the first U.S. Bank Youth Clinic of the season, as kids will receive free baseball instruction from Quakes' players and coaches. The Clinic begins at 10am and registration is at 9am. The game will follow at 2:05pm. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
