TACOMA, Wash. -- Justin Germano's strong start steered the Tacoma Rainiers a 2-0 shutout win over the Fresno Grizzlies at Cheney Stadium on Friday night.

Germano, in his first turn in the Rainiers rotation this season, limited the Grizzlies to two hits and two walks and struck out seven through 5.1 innings. The right-hander has allowed just two earned runs through his first 20.0 innings pitched this season, racking up a total of 17 strikeouts.

The first and only runs of the evening arrived in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Ketel Marte led off the frame with a double, Jesus Montero drove the infielder home and put Tacoma up 1-0 with an RBI single. Montero was responsible for upping that lead to 2-0 after scoring from third on a double steal.

As a team, Tacoma combined to collect eight hits off Fresno pitching. Marte and Patrick Kivlehan each collected two hits, with the infielder Marte going 2-for-4 with a run scored.

The Rainiers (9-13) look to string together a three-game winning streak when they host the third game of a four-game series with the Grizzlies (11-10) tomorrow, May 2. Right-hander Sam Gaviglio (1-2, 4.71) is slated to start for Tacoma against right-hander Brady Rodgers for Fresno (1-1, 8.22). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
