Captains Sweep Tincaps for Seventh Straight Win

(Ft Wayne, IN) -The Lake County Captains continued their hot streak on Thursday night with an 8-2 over the Fort Wayne Tincaps. Justus Sheffield earned his third win of the season as the Captains won their seventh straight game and also earned their second straight series sweep.

The Tincaps would get an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 1-0 lead.

The Captains would answer right back against Tincaps' starter Dinelson Lamet. After Lamet struck out seven through the first four innings, Bobby Ison would single to start the fifth inning. Grant Fink would follow with a walk. Both runners would advance a base on Francisco Mejia's sacrifice bunt. Mejia would also reach base when Ison beat the throw to third. Ordomar Valdez would then double into the rightfield corner to score Ison and Fink. Greg Allen would get an RBI on a sac bunt to score Mejia. Following a walk to Claudio Bautista, Bobby Bradley blasted his third homerun of the series, a three run homer to give the Captains a 6-1 lead. 

The Captains would add on two more runs in the sixth inning. Fink would double and score on Valdez's RBI single. Mejia would walk and score on Bautista's RBI double for an 8-1 lead.

Captains' starter Justus Sheffield (3-1) earned the win going five innings. He allowed two runs, one earned, on just five hits. Sheffield walked one and struck out seven. Nick Pasquale earned a hold with three innings of relief. He allowed just one hit and struck out five. David Speer finished the game with one inning of relief. He allowed two unearned runs on three hits while striking out two.

With the win, the Captains have now won seven straight games and have swept their last two series. They head home to start a seven game home stand on Friday night. Cleveland Indians' lefthander TJ House will start the game on a rehab appearance, while Indians catcher Yan Gomes will also begin a rehab stint with the Captains on Friday night.

With the win the Captains record improves to 19-15 and moves the team within one game of first place in the Eastern Division.

The Captains will go for their eighth straight win on Friday night when the Dayton Dragons come to Classic Park. The home stand begins with a Friday Fireworks Night presented by Cell Phone Repair. The Fireworks will be set to a 60's music soundtrack. Game time is 6:30 PM and can be heard on 1330AM WINT.
