May 17, 2015

FRISCO, TX - Backed by strong showings from pitchers Josh Hader and Chris Devenski, the Hooks nailed down a 5-2 victory Sunday afternoon at Dr Pepper Ballpark, completing a four-game sweep of the RoughRiders.

Corpus Christi (24-12) runs its win streak to a season-high six games. The Hooks have claimed 11 of their last 13 contests.

In the first, Tony Kemp and Andrew Aplin worked walks from Jose Leclerc. Following a double steal, Kemp scampered home on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead.

Leclerc settled down, retiring seven in a row before Jio Mier stepped to the plate in third. Mier belted a 2-2 pitch onto the berm to left of the batter's eye in center, pushing the Hooks in front 2-0.

Hader stranded five through the first three frames. With one away in the Frisco (12-24) fourth, Drew Robinson belted a solo shot to right field. His eighth home run of the year made it 2-1 Corpus Christi.

Devenski relieved Hader and worked around a lead-off single for a scoreless fifth. Nomar Mazara opened the sixth with a double and scored on a pair of fly balls to center field, tying the game.

Corpus Christi promptly regained the lead in the seventh. Tyler White and Conrad Gregor coaxed walks from Kyle Lotzkar (1-4) to begin the inning Tyler Heineman laid down a sac bunt and pinch-hitter Telvin Nash lined a single into a left off lefty Will Lamb for a 3-2 Hooks edge.

Mier began the eighth with a hustling double and scored from second when Gregor laced a line drive into right. White, who was hit by a pitch, later came home on a wild pitch, upping the margin to three runs.

Devenski (4-0) dispatched 11 of the final 12 men he faced to secure the victory.

Following a 7-1 road trip, the Hooks return to Whataburger Field for an eight-game home stand, beginning with San Antonio. Monday is One Dollar Hot Dogs and Soda Night, courtesy of Mrs. Baird's. First pitch is 7:05.
