Clevenger helps Tides roll past Louisville

Norfolk sets season-high with 15 hits
May 18, 2015

Steve Clevenger homered as part of a three-hit night, powering the Tides to a 9-3 win at Louisville Monday night.

Clevenger singled twice and belted a solo shot off of Josh Smith (0-1) in the fifth inning to help the Tides take the opener of a three-game set. The three-hit game extended Clevenger's hitting streak to eight games, tied with Christian Walker for the longest by a Tides player this season.

Norfolk set a season-high with 15 hits in the contest, as eight of nine batters in the lineup collected a base hit. Chris Parmelee had three hits to up his average to .347, while Everth Cabrera and Nolan Reimold each added two hits and an RBI.

Chris Jones (1-1) was the beneficiary of the offensive outburst, although he didn't need much help. Jones earned his first win of the season as he allowed three runs on five hits over a season-high seven innings of work. He walked three and struck out five while throwing 62 of his 93 pitches for strikes.

The two clubs continue their series Tuesday night, with first pitch from Slugger Field slated for 6:35. Zach Davies (1-2, 2.70) gets the start for Norfolk against left-hander David Holmberg (1-3, 6.49).
