66ers Stop Quakes Eight-game Streak, 8-3

May 20, 2015

San Bernardino, CA - The Inland Empire 66ers scored three runs in the seventh and four more in the eighth en route to an 8-3 win over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes at San Manuel Stadium on Tuesday night. The win cooled off the hottest team in the California League as the Quakes entered the evening on an eight-game win-streak and had won nine of their last ten contests.
The 66ers (18-19) snapped a mini two-game skid of their own with the victory as the offense banged out a dozen hits, four of which belonged to leadoff batter Bo Way. The Brunswick, GA native had a pair of doubles and singles while knocking in and scoring a pair of runs as well. Catcher Stephen McGee had three hits including a double for the 66ers as well. The former Florida State star knocked in a pair and is now batting .364 in 14 games with Inland Empire. Eric Aguilera had two hits and added to his team best RBI total, now at 22.
For the first-place Quakes (24-14) Kyle Farmer had three hits in the contest. Cody Bellinger, Paul Hoenecke and Joey Curletta each had two hits in the loss. All ten of Rancho Cucamonga's hits were singles.
Starting pitchers Harrison Cooney for the 66ers (5.2 IP, 6 H, 2ER, 3 BB, 2 Ks) and Rancho's Zack Bird (5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 8 Ks) each earned no-decisions. Michael Smith notched the win with 1.1 IP of one hit, one run work. The Mansfield, TX native improved to 4-0 on the campaign. Victor Araujo (2-2) was saddled with the loss as he allowed three runs, only one earned however, in two innings of effort.
The series continues on Wednesday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
