Rodriguez, Kelly, Guerrero Team on Shutout
May 20, 2015

CORPUS CHRISTI - Bryan Rodriguez pitched six shutout innings and Trea Turner singled, doubled, and homered as San Antonio defeated Corpus Christi 2-0 Wednesday at Whataburger Field before 3,977.

The Missions snapped Corpus Christi's win streak at eight. It was just the Hooks' third setback in the last 16 games.

Turner's fifth round-tripper was a lead-off liner on a 2-1 offering by just-inserted Jandel Gustave in the eighth that wrapped around the left-field foul pole.

Rodriguez (3-5) allowed six hits, a walk, and whiffed two. He threw just 72 pitches and was the beneficiary of three double plays. Casey Kelly stranded four Hooks in two scoreless frames while bridging to closer Tayron Guerrero, who collected his third save.

Corpus Christi (26-13) left nine men on and was one-of-eight with runners in scoring position.

Aaron West (1-3) was the hard-luck loser. The former Washington star, who lasted seven innings in the longest outing by a Hooks pitcher this season, permitted eight hits and struck out three.

West began the evening by allowing consecutive singles to Travis Jankowski and Turner, the former ultimately crossed on Hunter Renfroe's sacrifice fly.

San Antonio (17-22) turned double plays in three of the first five innings. Corpus Christi's only twin-killing snuffed a potential rally in the sixth. Turner opened with a double down the right-field line, but was gunned at third by left fielder Leo Heras in the wake of Casey McElroy's fly out. Renfroe followed with what would have been a run-scoring double to right-center.

Hooks catcher Tyler Heineman singled twice and has a seven-game hitting streak. Teammate Telvin Nash owns an eight-game run.

Mark Appel (3-0) starts for the Hooks in Thursday's series finale against Elliot Morris (1-3). Stripes presents Thirsty Thursday, with discounted beer and soda.
